Frequently asked questions

Ten answers, in the order they get asked. Step-by-step instructions live in the guide; anything not here is a phone call away.

01What does FYNEST actually do?

It turns a Tally trial balance into ICAI-compliant financial statements for proprietorship and partnership entities — balance sheet, profit and loss, and all twenty-three notes. The output is an Excel workbook with the formulas left in, so every figure can be traced back to the ledger it came from.

02Is my client data stored on your servers?

No. The workbook is built on your own machine and the file is never sent to us. It is held in memory while the workbook is built and is gone the moment the response is sent. Nothing is written to disk and no copy is kept of either the input or the output. Your classification rules are stored in your own browser and never uploaded at all.

03How do I get the file FYNEST needs?

You do not need a file at all. Install the Roshi Suite once on the PC that runs Tally, then open FYNEST with the company loaded and press Fetch trial balance. The guide walks through it — about two minutes, once per computer.

04Can I use it if I don't use Tally?

Yes, if your software can produce the same columns. Download the sample trial balance and match its headers exactly: Name, Primary Group, Opening Balance, Debit Totals, Credit Totals, Closing Balance, Is Dr Opening Balance, Is Dr Closing Balance..csv, .xlsx and .xls all work, as do comma, semicolon and tab separators.

05How do I know FYNEST read my books correctly?

It names, on screen, every Tally group that reaches no statement line, and will not build the workbook until each one has been given a line — so nothing is quietly left out. The workbook also carries the trial balance exactly as FYNEST read it, so any figure can be traced back to the ledger it came from. What to look at before you sign.

06A ledger is missing from the statements. Why?

Almost always because its Tally group is not one FYNEST recognises. FYNEST names every such group on screen and will not build the workbook until each one has been given a statement line, so this should not reach the file at all. Set the group once and FYNEST remembers it for every future statement, for every client.

07Which entity types are supported?

Proprietorship and partnership. Each uses its own ICAI format — partnership adds partners' capital accounts and partner remuneration. LLP and company formats are not supported.

08Is FYNEST affiliated with the ICAI?

No. FYNEST follows the ICAI format for non-corporate entities but has no affiliation with, or endorsement from, the Institute.

09Who is responsible for the numbers?

You are. FYNEST classifies and arranges what your trial balance contains; it cannot know your client's business. Read what it reports on screen, then the statements themselves, before signing. If something is wrong, tell us — we would rather hear it than not.

10Who built it?

ROSHI.IN, with professional input from CA Himanshu Aggarwal.
